CHAPTER 1

RECLAIMING YOUR POWER

What does empowerment feel like?

Empowerment is an emotion and an energy frequency, a force. It has little to do with status, wealth or possessions. When speaking of having power in this sense, or feeling powerful, it is not about asserting power over others, creating hierarchy or a sense of importance to the self through position and title.

True empowerment is knowing your worth, acknowledging your impact in this world, no matter where you are in life, and understanding that love and abundance are your natural birth right. It is understanding that lack of any kind is an illusion, an interpretation and manifestation of our belief systems.

Throughout our childhoods we grow up with collective belief systems – inherited by the country, politics, cities, religious beliefs and customs that we are born into - which teach us about our worth and possibilities in life. Then the beliefs of our parents and immediate family are handed down as a group belief system, which is handed down through our ancestral heritage or karma. Finally, our own personalities and intellects will collect these beliefs and develop a personal belief system.

All of these beliefs are imprinted into our subconscious minds, in particular up to the age of seven, and are now the driving force behind 95-99% of every action, reaction and emotion for every waking minute of our lives.

This means that only 1-5% of the time we are actually making conscious decisions about our lives and about how to interact with each other. A lot of people often feel like their emotions are in charge of them and that they have no power over their reactions.

Most of our actions are reactions to circumstances, rather than deliberate choices. Throughout my life I’ve often asked myself these three questions: ‘How can I stop feeling affected by people’s negative words or actions, how can I control my response and how do I remove the triggers?’

The answers to these questions can be found in the imprints of the subconscious mind: It is either an imprint of love or an imprint of fear.

Let me give you an example. If someone says something to you to intentionally hurt your feelings, you might react to this by getting sad or angry. The reason that you are reacting emotionally and taking these hurtful words personally is because you on a conscious level know that those hurtful words are untrue. But on a subconscious level - a level that you are, for the most part, entirely unaware of - you have an imprint or program of believes that you are not enough. It is an inner conflict. At some point in your life, most likely during your childhood, you were taught, by the direct impact of your role models or your environment that you are in some way not perfect or not loved or worthy just as you are.

You might have witnessed your parents having these critical beliefs about themselves, they might even have told you or made you feel that you are not enough. Your learning innocent child mind then adapts this as your benchmark for what self-worth is supposed to feel like. An imprint that dictates how you journey through life, how you treat yourself, how you allow people to treat you and what you believe to be deserving or worthy of.

Remaining upset because someone has deliberately tried to make you doubt your beauty, intelligence or worthiness is only possible when a part of you has already been doubting these things about yourself for a long time.

SELMA KARLSDOTTIR

Quantum energy healer and author Selma Karlsdottir was born in Iceland and educated in Germany, Milan and London. Always asking questions about life and the purpose of our experiences, she embarked on a journey to finding the answers 15 years ago. She started to discover in her own life what is today widely known as the law of attraction. She joined Buddhism in her search for answers and later became a practitioner of Transcendental Meditation. Her search eventually led to Reiki, and she has since been a practitioner of a method called Antojai Quantum Reiki and Alchemy.

Selma Karlsdottir is the author of the book "Love vs Fear - What's Blocking You?". It's in part self biographical, describing her journey of spiritual discovery, and in part the passing on of her knowledge and experiences to help people move forward on their own spiritual journeys and towards ascension. She firmly believes that once the limiting subconscious programs that are holding us in a state of fear and survival are released, we can reach our true potentials in life.
